February 22-29, 2009 Mall St. Matthews hosts CANstruction

Canstruction® is a design/build competition that is held in cities throughout the United States. Teams of architects, engineers, and students mentored by these professionals, compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.

The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits in each city where a competition is held. At the close of the exhibitions, all of the canned food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to emergency feeding programs that include pantries, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers.

Thank you to all of our participants and volunteers that made this year’s CANstruction the most successful ever! Dare to Care Food Bank received over $37,000 worth of non perishable food. Over 50,000 pounds of food will be used in our Emergency Food Program to help feed our neighbors in need.
