LEAD KITCHEN WORKER
Responsibilities
• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
• Cook food in various utensils or grillers
• Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
• Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
• Check quality of ingredients
• Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
• Estimate expected food consumption; then requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage.
• Plan menus for Saturday and students at Kingdom Academy, taking into consideration factors such as costs and special event needs
• Work closely with Dare to Care; requisition food for food pantry and Mid-Day Meals; pick up food from agency to be delivery to BCDC
• Prepare and arrange produce for customer’s distribution
• Coordinate and supervise work Kitchen volunteers
• Perform duties as assigned
Requirements
• Proven experience as cook
• Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
• Ability to work in a team
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent physical condition and stamina
• Able to lift 50lbs
• High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage
• Must be certified in food preparation
