Dare to Care’s Statement on the Government Reopening

Dare to Care Food Bank welcomes the news that the federal government has reopened and that critical nutrition programs are now funded. This includes full funding for SNAP benefits—with USDA confirming that most states will release SNAP funds within 24 hours of reopening—along with essential support for WIC, TEFAP, and CSFP. These programs are lifelines for millions of families, and this week’s action provides much-needed relief and stability at a moment of immense strain.

Still, reopening the government will not instantly reset lives, households, or local businesses to where they were before the shutdown began. It will not erase the uncertainty families have endured, nor will it fully address the needs of hundreds of thousands of people already experiencing food insecurity. Our community continues to feel the impact through increased visits to food pantries and a heightened need for support across our community.

At Dare to Care, our commitment remains unwavering. We will continue to stand alongside our neighbors, ensuring every family has access to the food they need to thrive. This week’s news brings hope—and with the continued support of our partners, donors, and volunteers, we will meet this moment together and build a more food-secure future for our community.
