Dare to Care’s Statement on the Government Shutdown
“As the government shutdown continues, thousands of families, federal workers—including active-duty military personnel—and seniors across our region are facing uncertainty about when they will next receive a paycheck or critical food benefits. Many are suddenly forced to make impossible choices between paying their bills and putting food on the table.
Across our community, the strain is already visible. Families who were just getting by are now seeking help, and food banks are seeing rising demand at a time when resources are already stretched thin. A single missed paycheck can be the difference between stability and crisis for many of our neighbors.
Dare to Care and our network of more than 400+ faith-based and charitable food pantries and programs remain open to anyone who needs help. But ensuring no one goes hungry will require all of us—lawmakers, businesses, faith and community organizations, and individuals—to work together.
We urge Congress to end the shutdown. With each passing day, the hardship and uncertainty for families grow deeper. If the shutdown continues past November 1, tens of thousands of our neighbors will lose access to vital SNAP benefits, and WIC support for mothers may also be halted—pushing countless families into crisis.
If you or someone you know needs help finding food assistance during this time, please visit daretocare.org or call (502) 966-3821.”
