Kids Cafe Sun Meals Application

Dare to Care Food Bank is the sponsor of the Sun Meals Program. This Summer Feeding Program Application is open to nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and community centers located in an area that serves 50% of kids free and reduced lunch. The Sun Meals program will operate between 6/1/26 – 7/31/26. The Sun Meals Program Year 2026 Application deadline is 3/20/2026. Applications will not be accepted after this date.

Kids Cafe Requirements*
1. Must be a 501(c)3 organization.
2. Must have a minimum of 20 Participants in-order-to receive meal service.
3. Must serve 85% of Meals received each day.
4. The Site must have adequate insurance coverage.
5. Be able to serve a meal at least one (1) day a week for a minimum of 30 minutes.
6. The Site Supervisor or Secondary Site Supervisor must stay on Site for the entire meal service.
7. Must be available on Serve Day to receive the meal delivery and sign the delivery ticket.
8. Must have access to an internet connection.
9. Have adequate staff/volunteers that can help serve meals, manage attendance, and all reporting.
10. Must participate in Food Safety Training and adhere to the requirements.
11. Must keep track of temperatures in dry and refrigerated storage areas.
12. All staff and volunteers must attend Civil Rights Training.
13. Must adhere to Sun Meal rules and regulations handed down by the federal and state government.
14. Must have storage capacity to hold dry and refrigerated inventory.
15. Must submit the daily reports online at least weekly and no later than Friday at 11:59pm.
16. Must provide at least one (1) educational or enrichment activity on meal serve days.
17. Must ensure children eat onsite. Food may not leave the Site.
18. The Site must be located in an area where at least 50% of children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on local school attendance data, ensuring the program serves communities with the highest need for food assistance.
19. Must be willing to open the Meal Service to the community.

Program Information

DTC is offering 3 days for Sun Meals training. May 5th 10am-1pm, May 13th 1pm-4pm, and May 18th 10am-1pm. The training will take place at the Dare to Care Community Kitchen Classroom. You must attend one of these days.
